FIRED-up Ayr Rugby Club head coach Calum Forrester is desperate to end the season with some silverware after they ended their BT Premiership campaign with a victory.

Last season the Millbrae men missed out on major honours and they want to rectify that this time around.

Ayr on Saturday defeated Watsonians 48-12 although Melrose will almost certainly finish top of the table.

The scene is now set for what should be a pulsating conclusion to the season.

Ayr can look forward to a BT Cup semi-final, which will be at home against opponents to be determined on Saturday, March 25. Then a week later they will have a home BT Premiership semi-final tie. They will be hoping to make the finals of each competition.

Forrester was impressed with the weekend performance and said: "We played well and it was good way to round off the league campaign. But at this stage of the season it is all about momentum and we have to keep playing well.

It's a bit stop and start because of the Six Nations Rugby Championships and we have a few weeks before we have to re-group and look forward to the next games. We last won the league and cup double in 2012 when I was captain and it would be great if we could finish the season with some honours. The games will be tough whoever we play but we will be well prepared."
