McBookie Super League First Division

GIRVAN 0

BEITH 1

STRUGGLING Girvan look destined for the Premier Division playoffs after going down to a last minute goal against a visiting side who still have an outside chance of landing the title.

The Seasiders battled hard and created chances, but failed to make the most of them.

It has been a tough season in the top league and it's far contrast from last year when they were on the crest of a wave en route to lifting the Super First Division title.

The home side began well as they continued their quest to secure more points and in nine minutes they forged a good opening when Darren Mitchell knocked the ball on for Craig Reid to fire into side netting.

Five minutes later at the other end, the visiting winger made a good down the right cross and his cross and header were cleared.

Then in 18 minutes a Scott Dinwoodie effort from 20 yards was turned away by the visiting goalie.

Only a superb save from home goalie Scott Johnston at the near post stopped Beith from going ahead.

Three minutes after the break, the visiting striker saw his shot from 20 yards crash off the crossbar.

Then Girvan came close in 51 minutes when Craig Harvey mad a run down the left and swung in a great cross to Martin Reilly, who shot over the bar from six yards.

Beith shot into the side netting in 66 minutes.

Then 10 minutes later, the North Ayrshire side won a corner which was turned into the six-yard box and at the second attempt it was turned into the net by Ross "Archie" McPherson.
