CAUTIOUS Craigmark Burntonians boss Ian Patterson continues to play down his team's chances of promotion, despite yet another memorable weekend win.

The Dalmellington team hammered one of the pre-season promotion favourites Maybole 4-1 away from home.

It was their ninth win out of 13 in what has been an inspiring campaign so far.

However Patterson warns that his side still have some tough tests ahead.

He was delighted with the performance sand said: "It was a really good win for us and that's the third time we have beaten Maybole this season, twice in the league and once in the Ardagh Glass Cup. We played really well and took our chances. It was good to see our young player Ross Copeland, who is only 18 playing in central defence and he had a good game. That's us now on 28 points, which is three more than last season and we are making progress."

Asked if his thought they could challenge for a place in next season's Championship, Patterson said: "Our aim is top six, we still have tough games to come against Whitletts, Irvine Vics and Dalry Thistle, but we look forward to them."

Saturday sees the team head for Glasgow to take on Ashfield in the West of Scotland Cup.

Patterson said: "It's a trip into the unknown but hopefully we will get a result."

Meanwhile Maybole boss Carlo Walker hit out at the dismissal of Callum McDade just after the break.

He said: "It was harsh decision, especially since the first yellow was for a foul Craigmark committed. But we lost really poor goals in the second half."

Maybole head to Troon for another West tie on Saturday.
