UPBEAT Annbank manager Keith Stewart is encouraged with his team's progress after taking their first point under his charge.

And he hopes his team will be in with a chance of clinching a place in League One next season under the major restructure of the junior game.

Bankies secured a battling 2-2 draw away to an Ardrossan Winton Rovers side who had been fancied for promotion but look to be running out of games.

Former Lugar and Muirkirk boss Stewart took charge in mid-January and has already strengthened the squad with some new faces.

He told Sportscene: "That was a good performance from us on Saturday although we missed some other chances so it was disappointing we didn't win the game. But I would say we are making progress. I have brought in new signings like Jordan Drummond and Lewis Blair from Lugar Boswell Thistle and they have fitted in well. Also we have Jack Taylor and Daniel Wilson, who have stepped from the Under-19s side and fitted in well."

Stewart's team are eighth and he said: "The aim is to finish fifth which would get us into the top league for the district teams next season and hopefully we can do that. We play Dalry away on Saturday and aim to pick up a win."
