WHITLETTS Victoria manager Neil Duffy has resigned his position with the club with immediate effect.

The move has been made due to changes to his work commitments.

Former Ayr United ace Duffy said: “I’ve recently had a change in my work that is now making it more difficult for me to attend training during the week. I travel all over the country with my work and often either have to drive straight to training from work or on occasion miss training altogether and this is now beginning to have an effect on me.”

“Whitletts are a great club with loads of potential. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time there. They are my local club and I wish them every success for the future and wish them well in their search for a new manager who can take them to the level they deserve but for now I need to take some time out of the game and concentrate on my work commitments”

The former Dundee United, Dundee, Falkirk and Ayr United defender also said that it would be a strange feeling not to be involved in the game.

“I’ve been involved in football since I was 5 years old. Its’ what the weekends are for and whether that’s been playing or coaching at various levels and this will now be the first time that I haven’t been involved in the game and that will feel very strange.”

Chairman John Dalton expressed his gratitude to the former boss and said: "Neil Duffy has done a sterling job at the club over the past couple of seasons and it is with regret that we have accepted his resignation but fully understand his reasons for doing so.”

“He has a lot of knowledge about the game having played and coached at senior, junior and youth level and knows the local scene well and that will be a loss to the game.

“The search for a new manager will begin straight away. W have a vital match against Ardrossan at Dam Park on Saturday but the committee will take our time to make sure we make the right appointment to take the club forward.”
