ANNBANK United caretaker boss Andy Stevenson dedicated his team's 4-0 win against Saltcoats Victoria to striker MacLean Simpson following his injury early in the District League game at Campbell Park.

The big Australian was taken to hospital and needed 10 stitches on a knee injury following an accidental collision with the home goalie in 15 minutes.

Stevenson said: "We wanted to win the match for Andy - there was no malice in the challenge, he just went for the ball with the goalie. It was a sore one. He got out on Saturday night but will be out for three weeks."

The stand-in manager was delighted with the display as his team completed back-to-back wins after overcoming local rivals Maybole at Dam Park the previous weekend.

He said: "We were quite pleased to win the match as we deserved it. We did well the previous week but played even better on Saturday. There were good passing movements and it was great to get a clean sheet, it has been a wee while since we had that. It was good for the goalie Marc Fisher and the back four not to concede a goal. The key to our win is we got confidence from last week and worked hard. The guys put in a shift."

Added Stevenson: "We created quite a number of other chances to make the scoreline more comfortable and it was good to see Dillon Dunn get his second hat-trick of the season."

However the stand-in boss will not rest on his laurels and said: "It's a pity the festive break is coming up as we have momentum. But we must build on these results and will train twice this week and once next week."
