MAYBOLE 5

ARDROSSAN WINTON ROVERS 2

By Matt Speirs

A FULL-strength Maybole side, with all their regular players available were too strong for Winton and deservedly picked up the three points.

The home side are on a high after an impressive start to the season.

Defeat for the visitors triggered the resignation of their manager Sandy MacLean after 17 months in charge.

Early exchanges were very even with neither side able to find a way to create clearcut chances in front of goal.

Maybole found the opening on the half hour when Lewis Gardiner played in Chris Allan and the striker shot into the top left hand corner of the net.

A minute later Lewis Gardiner had a sight at goal but his effort drifted wide.

Winton drew level a corner by Kevin Struthers was driven into the net by James McKenna.

Maybole got heir noses in front again three minutes after the interval when an Allan free-kick to the back post was headed into the net by Alex Bell.

Three minutes later it as all square again after a cross from the right found McKenna all on his own and he headed powerfully into the net.

It was end-to-end stuff now and a Ross Regan free-kick in 53 minutes flew just wide.

The next chance fell to Maybole Ross Clark set up Chris Allan but he shot wide of target.

However the goal was only delayed by two minutes as Gardiner set up Ross Clark and he rounded the keeper before shooting into the net.

As the match moved into the final quarter Maybole were in total command and a free-kick by Allan in 75 minutes crept just wide.

A minute later Allan again had a chance but his shot hit the post. The striker was not to be denied and got his reward in 80 minutes. Picking.the ball up wide on the right he worked his way down the wing and along the goal-line before shooting the ball across the goalkeeper and into the net.

A minute later we had the goal of the game Aiden Conner latched on to a clearance from the Winton defence and shot high into the right hand corner of

the net.
