GUTSY Girvan recovered from losing a goal in the first 20 seconds to move into the first round proper of the cup.

Saints kicked off, made progress down the left and the cross into the box was headed into the net.

Girvan drew level in nine minutes. Steven Auld was pulled down in the penalty area and Robert Paterson netted from the spot kick.

The second goal for Girvan arrived in 29 minutes when a Michael Reilly shot was dropped by the keeper and Paul Cameron netted from the

rebound.

Six minutes later a free-kick at the edge of the box taken by Paul Cameron was diverted by the wall for a corner.

Girvan went ahead in 39 minutes when a short corner from Craig Reid to skipper Scott Dinwoodie and back to Reid saw the cross turned into the net by Darren

Mitchell.

Two minutes after the interval Scott Johnston had a fine save, turning the ball away for a corner.

St Cuthbert were reduced to 10 men in 52 minutes when a player received a second yellow card.

Five minutes later Girvan added a fourth goal. An Auld corner-kick found Reilly who shot high into the net.

St Cuthbert pulled a goal back in 62 minutes when two defenders left the ball to each other and the St Cuthbert player swept the loose ball into the net.

Fifteen minutes from time, Scott Johnstone misjudged a ball into the box and a home player netted.

Girvan made the tie safe in the eighty fourth minute substitute Hunter crossed for Reilly to head into the net.

Girvan now face the long trip to Brora Rangers in the first round proper on Saturday, September 23.
