Ardagh Glass League Cup
ANNBANK 1
CRAIGMARK BURNTONIANS 1
SPIRITED Craigmark soared into the quarter-finals of the Ardagh Glass League Cup for the first time in more than a decade last night.
They secured the point they needed thanks to a goal from Scott Dempster.
And boss Iain Patterson is simply delighted the Dalmellington club have banished their "wooden spoon" reputation as they head to Loch Park next Wednesday to face the mighty Glenafton Athletic in the quarter-finals.
'Mark made the breakthrough in 50 minutes when a throw-in from Graeme Whitaker landed at Dylan Thirtle's feet and he set up Dempster to knock the ball home from 12 yards.
Then with 20 minutes remaining Bankies pulled a goal back when Andy Stevenson shot home from inside the box.
A delighted Patterson said: "It's great to be through, I think it must be about 13 years since we reached the quarter-finals. Now we're not the wooden spoon team, that's what the people of Dalmellington have been saying."
He is now looking forward to the league opener, ironically against Annbank on Saturday before focusing on the last-eight tie
Added the boss: "We hope to take three points on Saturday. We are targeting a top-seven finish so we can get into the league below the Super First Division. It's great to have a tie away to the Scottish Cup holders and league winners. We are massive underdogs but it will be a great occasion to be part of and we will do our best."
