WHITLETTS Victoria chairman John Dalton this week defended his team's proposals for change in the Junior game despite some concerns about other local teams about travelling.

The Ayr club are calling for the introduction of two top leagues of 16 and two lower leagues of 16, with one of the lower leagues made up of a mix of Ayrshire and Central League clubs.

But they are open to changing their proposals.

Dalton said: I'm not having a go at clubs who may disagree with our proposals. I'm only expressing our viewpoint that clubs in the ADL are ambitious and looking to play at the highest possible level and that the argument concerning travel shouldn't be an issue. It's as far from Dalmellington to Largs as it is from Dalmellington to Glasgow. I have had good feedback from Ayrshire and Central League clubs on the proposals and with with the likelihood of Ayrshire District League clubs playing an additional five home games over a season there is an opportunity for them to raise more funds to allow them the opportunity to achieve those ambitions. There is a desire for change in the West and broad support for change from Ayrshire and Central League clubs with clubs from all divisions from Premier, Superleague, ADL and Central First and Second Divisions. Other clubs may come forward with their own ideas."

Meanwhile Vics boss Neil Duffy was impressed with his side's display as they became the first club to beat league leaders Ardrossan Winton Rovers.

He said: "That was the most important game of the season and we deserved to win. Our defenders kept them at bay."

Girvan manager Peter Leonard was impressed with his team's showing as they hammered Blantyre Vics 6-1 away.

He said: "Robert Paterson led the line really well with a hat-trick and it was a good way to bounce back from our Scottish Cup defeat."!

Troon host Hurlford United after their scheduled game at Kilwinning fell victim to the weather.

Boss Gordon Burns said: "We must aim to take three points, every game is important."
