PROUD Craigmark Burntonians boss John Redmond praised his side after they celebrated success in his first game back in charge.

The Dalmellington side defeated Ardeer Thistle 2-0 away from home with Redmond and new number two Jonny Baillie, the former Annbank United manager in the dug-out.

Victory moved 'Mark into seventh place.

Redmond, who was briefly in charge last season said: "I was happy with our performance. We were good at the back and strong going forward and it was encouraging to keep a clean sheet. Everyone worked hard."

'Mark on Saturday host high-flying Super First Division leaders Largs Thistle in the opening round of the showpiece Ayrshire Weekly Press Cup.

Redmond is expecting a tough test and said: "Largs are doing really well in the league but this game will give us an indication of how we are progressing. We hope to give a good account of ourselves and the guys are all looking forward to it."

Meanwhile Whitletts Vics boss Neil Duffy praised his side after they racked up the biggest win during his three months in charge.

They hammered Saltcoats Victoria 8-0 at Dam Park Stadium with star striker Tony Balfour scoring five goals.

Duffy said: "It was a great team performance We dominated and deserved our win."

Vics on Saturday are at Annbank United and Duffy said: "We will be looking to win. The guys are all playing for places for next season."

Girvan boss Peter Leonard was happy with his team's display as they beat Annbank 3-0.

He said: "We played well and took our chances. Now we must aim to beat Kello on Saturday."
