DETERMINED goalscorers Adam Forsyth and Chris McKnight are going out to help Troon topple leaders Pollok and claim top spot in the Super Premier Division for the first time.

The Seasiders defeated Shettleston 3-0 away to close within a point of 'Lok who reached the semi-finals of the ETHX Energy Scottish Junior Cup with a 2-1 win against Kilbirnie Ladeside.

Now they go head-to-head at Portland Park on Saturday in a hotly anticipated top-of-the-table clash.

Striker Forsyth. who scored a double to take his tally to 15 goals in 14 games was delighted with the performance and said: "That's a really good run we are on with four wins from the last five games. But it will count for nothing if we can't beat Pollok. We have a great incentive we have knowing a win would take us to and I think we are capable of winning the title.. I am very confident we can win the game. We are playing well but we also still have Auchinleck Talbot to play at home and that could be an important match. I am pleased with my form."

Defender/midfielder McKnight, who scored the opener from the penalty spot added: "It was a good win and we have not looked back since losing to Darvel in the Scottish Cup and maybe that was the kick up the backside we needed. We know it's a massive match on Saturday - the biggest of the season so far and and must aim to win its win it. If we do I don't see why we can't go on to win the league. Pressure will be on the teams behind us to pick up points in their games in hand. There is a good mix of youth and experience in the squad."

Boss Gordon Burns was heartened with the display and said: "it was a good all-round performance and as I said before on our day we can beat anyone. That's a great run we are on with 13 points from the last five games and we are playing well. We score some good goals on Saturday. Pollok have a very strong squad with the likes of the Winters brothers and Carlo Monti and they are going well but it's a home match and we are looking to win.

"It would be great if we could get into top spot as it's in our hands and we could be there for a while as teams behind are playing catch with games in hand. We can only try to keep winning and see what happens."
