JUBILANT Maybole manager Carlo Walker saluted his team as they secured a vital win to boost their survival hopes.

Bole defeated Ardrossan Winton Rovers 1-0 at Ladywell Stadium to move off bottom spot in the Super First Division.

They are now a point clear of basement side Bellshill Athletic but behind Rutherglen Glencairn only on goal difference and two adrift of Winton in a league which sees four teams relegated.

Walker was delighted with his team's display and said: "That was our second win of the year and we really deserved it as we controlled the match. and defended well.

The manager was impressed with the performances of defender Neil McGowan. who is on loan from Troon and goalkeeper Grant Weir who returned from injury.

He said: "Neil has so much experience and works well with the younger players. When he heads the ball it goes for miles. Grant also made some great saves for us. I know they had a player sent off but even before that I would say we were the better team."

Walker is now looking forward to Saturday's league clash away to Kilsyth Rangers and said: "We must aim to take three points.. The aim is to stay up."

Meanwhile Whitletts Victoria manager Neil Duffy was heartened with his team's display as they went down 2-1 to First Division title contenders Clydebank in a West of Scotland Cup tie.

He said: "We had a lot of players out and had to bring in a couple from the Under-19s. But we competed really well and missed a few chances against a top side. We are at home to Muirkirk on Saturday and must look to win."
