FREE-scoring Troon FC striker Adam Forsyth firmly believes his side can challenge for the Super Premier Division after helping them pull off one of their biggest wins of the season.

The former Annbank United target man scored a double in Saturday's 4-0 demolition of high-flying Kilbirnie Ladeside at Valefield Park and has now scored 12 goals in 12 league games.

Victory avenged a 1-0 defeat against the Garnock Valley side at Portland Park earlier in the season and helped the Seasiders soar into second spot.

Forsyth (21), in his second season at Portland Park said "That's three top sides we have beaten in the last few weeks - Hurlford United, Kirkintilloch Rob Roy and now Kilbirnie. All respect to Darvel but we really shouldn't have lost to them in the Scottish Cup and that defeat was a motivation for us. We are playing with a lot of confidence.and I really don't see why we can't make a challenge for the title. We are second and if we win our games in hand we will go ahead of leaders Pollok."

Troon on Saturday head to Loch Park to faced Glenafton Athletic and Forsyth said: "We were disappointed to lose to Glenafton at home but we must look to take three points."

Manager Gordon Burns as delighted with his team's showing and said: "Before we played Kilbirnie they had only conceded five goals in eight league games. But from start to finish we were excellent and dominated. The application from the players was first class. It was a great team effort. We could have won more easily. It's great to be second in the Premier Division and I don't think remember us being in that position."

However the manager is keeping his feet firmly on the ground and added:"We will not get carried away. We are looking to take three points on Saturday and must aim to keep winning."

Troon last week secured defender Dale Keenan (21) on loan from Stranraer, with the player making his debut at Kilbirnie.

Burns said: "We have been looking to add to our defensive options for some time, as we have been short of cover on the left-hand side and in the middle, and Dale fits the bill in both respects. We tried to sign him earlier in the season, but Stranraer weren't in a position to let him go then. He's big and strong in a defensive aspect, but is very comfortable on the ball."

Defender Ben Wilson is on loan to amateur side Prestroon United to help him secure first team experience.
