Ryan Borris, who left Stark"s Park to join Ayr United in the summer is delighted with the team's form but insists they have to retain their focus as we approach the closing stages of the season.

The midfielder, sitting third in the Ayr Advertiser Ayr United Starman competition, sponsored by Taj, Main Street, Prestwick was speaking two days after United had come back from a 2-0 deficit to beat Brechin City 4-2 at Somerset Park.

He said: 'The gaffer had a few words to say to us at half-time, we didn"t start well but showed great character to come from behind and win the game. There were a lot of changes in the squad this season but we have a great coaching team and that has helped ensure that the lads have gelled together very well. We have done even better than I thought. It makes it interesting that Raith Rovers are in the title race with us and I still have a lot of friends there.

'Obviously we have to aim to keep on winning and I am hopeful that we will be up there come the end of the season but we have to take it a game at a time, we really can"t afford to look beyond the next game. Mark Roberts has a lot of experience and has made a difference since coming in. We can"t look ahead and now have to aim for three points at Hampden on Saturday.'

The visit of the Hampden is the first part of a double header with the Spiders visiting Somerset Park for a re-arranged game next Wednesday, March 4.
