LEGENDARY former defender Sanny McAnespie recalled this week that he made the best possible start to his Ayr United career, scoring on his first team debut against Dumbarton at Boghead and admitted the memory of going head to head against greats like Kenny Dalglish and Joe Harper in front of bumper crowds will be a lasting memory.
He is inducted into the Ayr United Hall of Fame at a prestigious dinner at Ayr Racecourse on Friday night along with goalkeeper Davie Stewart and striker Alex Ingram, made more than 300 appearances before hanging up his boots in 1978-79.
