As Scottish bowlers did battle for the 25th national championship at Northfield, and lady golfers from around the world contested the British Open a few miles south at Turnberry, it was teams from all over the country who were contesting the honours at the traditional venue for the event, at Ayr’s Old Racecourse playing fields.

We were there to capture all the action on the day.

There were 152 teams competing, which included 46 aged 9,10, and 11, all taking part in the soccer sevens, and 38 teams of seven-year-olds playing in the fun fours, along with 24 teams in the super fives, for those aged eight.

Main organiser Duncan McIntyre said: “There are many people to be thanked including our team of referees and groundsmen, as well as the volunteers who were there from 7am to 7pm each day.”
