Girvan Cycle Race last year

CYCLISTS and cycling enthusiasts are looking forward to this year"s three-day Girvan event - the 40th time it has taken place.
There are only around 30 days to go until the start of the race, which is sponsored by ScottishPower Renewables.
Race organiser Ian Sinclair recently revealed details of the course that riders will cover on the opening stage.
And the Carrick Herald will be providing full coverage of the popular race - both before the action starts and reports from the event itself.
Ian said : 'We have devised a demanding, classic stage race route but, with a top notch, evenly matched field competing, it remains to be seen if it will be enough to prevent the overall victory being decided on time bonuses, as has happened in recent years. Whatever the outcome it"s sure to be a great race as always.'
Categories - The Girvan Cycle Race has been classified by British Cycling as a "National A" event, open to Elite, 1st and 2nd category licence holders. Band 3 points will be awarded for individual stages.
Teams - In 2008 the National Premier Calendar Road Race Series Regulations were amended to stipulate a maximum team size of eight riders. The Race Organiser will give preference to nominated teams of four to eight riders but can usually accommodate a number of individual entrants who will be grouped, at the Race Organiser"s discretion, into composite teams.
Entry Fees - The race entry fees for 2009 are:-
£35.00 per individual rider.
£30.00 per rider - discounted rate for nominated teams of 4 or more riders up to a maximum of 8 riders.
Anti Doping Policy: The Girvan Cycle Race supports drug free sport. In accordance with our Anti Doping Policy individuals involved in the use, administration or supply of prohibited substances or methods are not welcome at the Girvan Cycle Race.
Postal Entries - Please complete the appropriate entry form/s and send with a cheque for the full amount by surface mail to:-
Ian Sinclair, Cartref, 2 Old Glasgow Road, Stewarton, Ayrshire, KA3 5JJ.
Please make cheques payable to: "Wallacehill CC - Girvan Race Account".
Please indicate on the entry form if you wish to be nominated as a reserve in the event of the race being oversubscribed.
