A HUGE double boost has been delivered to Ayr United fans this week, with two key players signing on for the rest of the season.,

It was announced on Saturday that talented young striker Jordan Preston, on loan from Blackburn Rovers from the start of 2015-16 had penned a deal which will keep him at Somerset Park until the end of the current campaign.

The news came a day after former Partick Thistle midfielder Jamie Adams agreed to stay on.

Manager Ian McCall was delighted Preston is staying on board and said: "Jordan is doing well, he has scored seven goals for us but could have had even more. He is a good young player."

He also welcomed the news on Adams and said: "We are delighted to get Jamie signed up until the end of the season. He has been a huge player for us this season and a massive miss when he isn’t playing. He should be back within the next fortnight. I didn’t think he would get into the swing of things as quickly as he did this season however I know the ability that he has and he is a big, big player for us. Jamie and I both see the potential to have him here longer term and we need to get a training programme in place to fit him."

United's scheduled home clash with Cowdenbeath was called off owing to a frozen pitch on Saturday. They are at Albion Rovers on Saturday but Adams, Boyle, Gerry McLauchlan and Ross Docherty are set to miss out through injury.

McCall said: "It's a massive three points as Dunfermline play Cowdenbeath and we must look to win."
