Ayr, in black, in action last week
Quite a weekend, with Ayr being voted Scottish Hydro Electric Club of the Month and avoiding what could have been an anti-climax by sticking a bonus point win on West to stay four points clear at the top of Premier 1.
Well worth it they are too after seeing off one of the most dangerous sides in the league with West coming to Millbrae having win three of their opening five matches and with the scalps of Hawks, Hawick and Heriots under their belts.
In the appalling conditions-the 2nd XV match on the adjacent pitch had to be called off-Ayr weathered an early assault during which West spurned a kickable penalty and opted for the scrum. Their confidence in their pack was severely dented when Ayr turned them, took the put-in and set down a serious marker.
