AYRSHIRE Kestrels have played several matches as part of the a national programme of rugby fixtures.
The under-15 side is selected from the most promising young players in the county and performed will in a series of contests against other regional sides in Scotland.
Although the matches have a competitive edge, their main purpose is to identify suitable candidates for future development by the Scottish Rugby Union.
Because of this, coaching sessions are tough going but as a result the lads emerge as better, fitter players with the specialist training also focusing on attitude and commitment.
Included in the National Player Pathway Programme were matches against Renfrewshire Rhinos, Dumfries and Galloway Bulls and courses at the national training centre at Straun.
They now go back to their various clubs to start league and cup action with their own clubs all over South Ayrshire and beyond - with one eye on a possible future in pro-rugby.
