AMBITIOUS Ayr United have made their second summer signing which sees Ian McCall reunite with a former player.
The Honest Men have strengthened their attacking options with the capture of experienced striker Kris Doolan on a one-year deal.
McCall moved to snap up the 32-year-old – 10 years after signing the player from Auchinleck Talbot when manager  of Partick Thistle.
Doolan went on to make 401 appearances during a decade at Firhill, scoring 121 goals including 54 during a five-year stint in the Scottish Premiership.
Revered by Thistle supporters, Doolan was inducted into the Maryhill club’s Hall of Fame in March 2019 during his testimonial season but was informed by Gary Caldwell he was free to find a new club at the end of last season.
McCall feels he can make a big contribution in the Ladbrokes Championship.
He said: ”With Lawrence leaving I wanted to ensure at least one of our new signings in the forward areas was a proven goalscorer, and Kris is certainly that at a high level. I have been chasing this deal for 6 weeks and there were many clubs after him, big clubs in our league, so we are absolutely delighted that he has chosen to come here.
“He is extremely fit, and after the way he left Thistle he is very hungry to succeed.
Kris is a great boy, he is exactly the type we want here and will fit in perfectly.”
