STRUGGLING Maybole boosted their hopes by holding promotion-chasing Winton.

The first chance in two minutes saw Darren Johnson save David Adam’s shot from the edge of the box comfortably. Maybole’s first chance came in six minutes when Chris Campbell sent in a dangerous cross from the right which was cleared out only as far as Kyle Campbell who shot wide from 20 yards.

In 25 minutes there was another chance for the visitors and although Jai Holland was in a good position Andy McGregor denied him an opening, forcing him to lay the ball off. Maybole were forced to make an early change in 47 minutes when Fraser Smith was unable to continue and he was replaced by Andy Hainey. In 50 minutes, Johnson made another good save from Andy Hunter and a minute later a Miller free-kick from just outside the box went straight through to Chris Lamb.

Winton came very close on the hour when Jamie McKenna got on the end of a ball into the box from former Ayr United man Michael Wardrope and although Johnson partially blocked his shot it looked as if the ball was going to roll into the net until Stuart Peacock cleared it off the line. Late on Maybole almost scored when Winton lost possession and Chris Campbell raced into the box, bringing out a good save from Lamb.
