McBookie League Two
ANNBANK UNITED 1
VALE OF CLYDE 1
BANKIES had to be content with a share of the spoils at home to a strong Vale side on Saturday.
The first real chance came Bankies' way in 16 minutes as Ross McManus won the ball back before playing in Jordan Ryan but his cut back was cleared over the bar, from the resulting corner a Gordon Wilson shot was held by the Vale of Clyde keeper.
In 25 minutes Bankies goalie John McWilliam made a good stop following a neat one-two.
Vale then watched a diving header agonisingly loop over the bar. Then in 39 and 32 minutes, McWilliam made two fantastic saves to keep the hosts in it.
The Bankies went ahead in 38 minutes as a corner-kick in was headed by Jordan Ryan and his effort was saved, but the ball was rolled back across goal for the striker to tap home. The lead didn't last long though as a mere minute later, Vale equalised. From another corner, their defender made a late run into the box unmarked and powered a header into the net.
A Vale player made a jinking run into the box and slammed a strike at goal by Alan Orr got his head in the way to deflect the effort away and then Vale of Clyde headed over as they looked to score a second.
In 69 minutes McWilliam again foiled them with a strong save with his legs from an angled drive.
A deflected Vale of Clyde shot squirmed just wide in 87 minutes and with a minute to go, Ryan was played through for the hosts with a fantastic ball but the ref pulled it back for offside.
