William Hill Scottish Cup Second Preliminary Round

GIRVAN 0

BURNTISLAND SHIPYARD 1

NEW-look Girvan, who had recently-appointed co-bosses Ian Patterson and Mick O'Neil in charge, lost narrowly to the Fifers after squandering some first half chances.

The home side, who had a host of new faces in their squad, began well and in two minutes Craig Harvey had a half chance with his shot, but the visiting goalie saved easily.

Then in 20 minutes, a Tait cross found Stevie O’Donnell with a free header in box but went inches over. Another chance came in 34 minutes when a Mitchell cross found Mark Doolan but couldn’t steer it net bound with header past post.

The hosts kept piling on the pressure and in 42 minutes, a Harvey free-kick from 22 yards was tipped over the bar by the goalie.

It was a better first half performance from Girvan which kept the visitors with few chances

Then in 55 minutes a good passing move from Burntisland up through the park saw Johnson come out to narrow the angle but the visiting player placed it by him and into empty net

A Burntisland free-kick from 20 yards in 75 minutes rebounded of post and cleared

Minutes later, a Mitchell got a shot away just inside box but went over bar

Overall it was a better showing from Girvan and considering the time the new management had to work with the team with new faces in it the future looks good and with a little bit of luck in front of goal they will start winning matches
