THE 86th Ayr Bowling Tournament was a great success with competition intense as ever.

History was made by Alex Higgins of Stranraer BC, who won the Gents Singles and Pairs. He was partnered in the pairs by clubmate by Michael Kelly of Stranraer.

The mixed pairs and junior pairs started off the week with the new format and final being played on the Wednesday night at Craigie Bowling Club. Spectators came along to support the finalists and saw two great games.

In the Junior Pairs Final was sponsored by Peter Wilson and Sons, Carson Mason from Coylton BC and George Robertson of Ochiltree BC defeated Aimee Richardson and Aimee Harris, following on from their win in the SYBA championships a few weeks ago.

Claire McCurdie from Forehill BC and John Cuthbertson from Northfield beat Louise Noon from Newton Park BC and Darren Weir (Prestwick) in the Mixed Pairs Final

Rachael Houston of Prestwick won the Junior Girls Singles, beating Aimee Harris of Shettleston BC.

Lewis Rennie from WE Stranraer BC beat Jamie Noon from Newton Park in the Junior Boys Singles final. The Ladies Pairs was won by Shirley Griffen and Donna Clark of Coylton, who beat mother and daughter Lynn and Rebecca Houston (Prestwick).

Rebecca Houston of Prestwick won the Ladies Singles, defeating Annbank's Janette Muir.

In the Gents Singles, Alex Higgins defeated Stuart Reid Ayr BC in a very close game.

Michael Kelly and Alex Higgins (Stranraer BC) won the Gents Pairs, beating Derek McCall and James McRobert of Hawkhill B.C.

The Tommy Campbell Senior Singles was won by Sheila Cole (Kincaidston & Belmont Bowling Club). She became the first woman to win this trophy, beating B Lemerquer in the final.

The directors would like to thank all the companies, bowlers, markers, umpires and green keeping staff who have supported the tournament this year.

Dates for next year’s tournament are July 29 until August 3. Entry forms are now available.
