Sectional League Cup
IRVINE MEADOW 1
WHITLETTS VICTORIA 4
BEAMING Whitletts Vics boss George Grierson praised his team after they pulled off a second major upset inside four days.
They swept aside Meadow in this cup tie, just four days after defeating Arthurlie 4-1 in the Championship.
Grierson said: "This was a continuation of Saturday. I felt in the first two games against Cumbernauld and Rutherglen we maybe deserved something which we didn't get but we deserved to win as we pressed them all over the park. Thomas Donovan and Adam Forsyth. The three boys at the back and we are big centre halves and we play to their strengths.  The strikers Thomas Donovan and Adam Forsyth are always picking up goals. We worked really hard and there wasn't a fault in the team. Our focus now is on the home league game against Darvel on Saturday."
Back to the action and Vics came close in 14 minutes when a Louis Kerr shot was spilled by Shaun Newman and the ball broke to former Meadow man Graeme Barbour, who netted from six yards but the “goal” was chalked off for offside.
Three minutes later a strong Ryan Begley header at the near post was well saved by Marty Fraser.
Vics carved out another opening in 33 minutes when a 25-yard effort from Louis Kerr was well handled by Newman.
Medda came so close in 37 minutes when Reece Pearson pounced on a loose ball and crossed to Darren Miller, who headed inches wide of target.
However three minutes later Vics were awarded a penalty when Adam Forsyth was tripped on the edge of the box by home captain Ben Carson and the striker dusted himself down to net from the spot.
Two minutes after the break a shot from the outside of the box from Jared Willet was deflected wide by the Vics defence.
Then Dave Mackay ballooned a 20-yard free-kick over the bar.
However in 55 minutes Vics doubled their tally when Thomas Donovan..slammed the ball home from 16 yards.
The hosts were denied a penalty claim in 65 minutes when Pearson went down inside the box.
Whitletts were in dreamland and it was the stuff of nightmares for the hosts in 68 minutes when Sean Ewart bulleted the ball home.
Medda pulled a goal back in 78 minutes when Aaron Connolly netted from the penalty spot.
Five minutes later Connolly sent an 18-yard shot flashing narrowly wide of target.
Paul Millar drilled the ball home from 12 yards to make it 4-1 in 88 minutes and that's how it stayed.
