IMPRESSIVE Prestwick moved into joint top-spot in the Western Premier Division following a hard-fought weekend win.

Shahzaf Rafiq's men made the trip to Titwood to face a side they had defeated away from home last season on the way to title success.

The visitors won the toss and elected to field first. They began well and Paddy Barbour made a useful 42 before being stumped by Fraser Macdonald off the bowling of Mitchell Rao.

Fellow opener Sheryar Awan also batted well, hitting 60 before being bowled by overseas amateur Jacob Steber. David Sturgess blasted 28 before being bowled by Sachin Chaudhary and Andrew Scobie hit 34 before being bowled by Sachin Chaudhary. There was then a middle-order collapse and Chaudhary and Patterson took a wicket apiece, with two run outs as the hosts ended their innings on 240-9.

In reply opener Rafiq was out for 11 but Fassail Jawad hit 45, Macdonald scored 49 and Chaudhary chipped in with 51 as the visitors ended on 243-8, giving them a two-wicket win.

Rafiq was pleased with the result with his side now level with Ferguslie, who suffered their first defeat against Greenock on Saturday.

But he still feels there is room for improvement.

He said: "It was a good win and we bowled well but I feel we can bat better. We are not at our best, hopefully that's the sign of a good team. We have a very important game on Saturday at home to Uddingston and must look to get a result. The good thing is we have Willie Rowan back now, he has been working some of the time and is an important player."

Meanwhile Ayr slumped to second bottom spot after a nine-wicket defeat away to Poloc.

Ayr won the toss and opted to bast first.

Scott McElnea top scored with 77 as they ended their innings on 190-9 off 50 overs.

However Poloc were 191-1 in reply.
