DEFENDING champions Prestwick racked up their second win out of three in the Western Premier Division on Saturday.

They travelled to Glenpark to face basement side Greenock, but were given a tough test by a determined home team.

The visitors opened strongly, with skipper Shahzad Rafiq (32) and Fasail Jawad (64) putting on a partnership of 50 for the first wicket.

Jacob Steber was then run out for a duck. However Sachin Chaudhary then made a swashbuckling 50 after being dropped by the hosts on just 10.

He put up a partnership of around 100 with Tom Fleet, who ended up with an excellent 64 as Prestwick were bowled all out for 274.

In reply Greenock began well but Rafiq dismissed the home number one for 34 with the number two batsman run out for 19.

However Chaudhary completed a vintage all-round display with a superb 5-25 off nine overs and Craig Morrison and Mitchell Rao took a wicket apiece as Greenock were bowled all out for 190, giving Prestwick an 84-run win.

Rafiq said: "Tom and Fasail battled well. Sachin did well although he knows he could have got a bigger score, but he bowled brilliantly."

Meanwhile Prestwick on Sunday forfeited their Scottish Cup tie away to Arbroath as they could not field a team.

The skipper added: "It was a five-hour round trip and a lot of the guys have families. I think the Scottish Cup should have regionalised qualifying in the opening stages. That would make it easier. I think we could struggle to play in this next year as well if it's the same format."
