TROON Ladies spent the weekend playing away from home and enjoyed contrasting fortunes.

There was success for Troon Ladies 2s as they continued their charge toward the end of season with a 5-0 win against Giffnock Ladies 2s, while Ladies 1s stalled as they lost 3-2 to Glasgow Accies Ladies 2s in a tense game.

The Ladies 1s struggled to find their form in the first quarter while Glasgow Accies started at full pace.

With a quick series of three goals from both open play and a converted short corner, the play suggested a disappointing contest ahead for Troon. Happily the end of the first quarter saw an awakened 1s start to compete and dominate the control of the ball, driving into the opposition D in search of a more favourable outcome. The second half saw results begin to flow with a short corner goal from Brogan Gibson, and any break back from Glasgow Accies was now being robustly defended and turned aside, often on the goal line. The tide had turned - but time was running out. Despite the loss of an injured player reducing the 1s to only 10 players, Lisa MacDonald played around the goalkeeper to secure Troon’s second goal. A frantic push in the last few minutes offered a chance of redemption through a draw, but, to the team’s dismay, it was not to be.

Ladies 2s were away to Giffnock Ladies 2s and, in contrast, the young squad were strong from pass back, controlling the game throughout.

Consistently building up from the back, the 2s delivered some great passes to midfield which in turn were driven down the line or into the opposition circle. Their strength was shown through their impressive scoreline of 5-0, with goals coming across the game from Olivia Stark (2), Rosie Tudor (2) and Sophie Lennox.

While Giffnock continued to resist and tried to respond, they could not break through the 2s defence, and so had no real opportunities to threaten Troon’s goal.

Their 11th win keeps Ladies 2s in third position in Division 4, while Ladies 1s' loss leaves them fourth in Division 2, a more precarious position that they’ll have to fight to improve this late in the season.

This coming Saturday sees Ladies 1s hosting Hillhead Ladies 3s at home, pass back at 1pm, while Ladies 2s travel away to play Glasgow University 4s.
