AN OLD song about mud, mud, glorious mud was the apt description of the Super Quaich cyclo Cross at Rozelle on Sunday.

Conditions under wheel were extremely difficult for the riders and only those with the best handling skills were successful in staying upright.

Those carrying a few extra pounds from their Christmas and New Year festivities had no chance. Nearly 200 riders took part in the event.

Ayrshire clubs were well represented with Brian Yates of Carrick Cycling Club coming in eighth in the senior A Race which was won by top rider David Duggan.

Neil Walker of the Kilmaurs club finished a credible 15th.

Ayr Roads Cyclo Cross stalwart Fraser Tait had a excellent race against the young seniors. Fraser finished in 39th position. Young Iain Fisher just home from his engineering job on the high seas, found the going tough and finished well down the field.

His mother Aileen faired better in the B race. The best result of the Roads came from Scott Knox who finished 20th overall in the same race.

Young Alloway schoolboy, Ollie Kelly took fourth position in the Under 14 event. While Dad Robert punctured and withdrew.
