AYR Storm U16 men headed to Glasgow looking to overturn a five-point loss earlier in the season in SBC Division 2 to Glasgow Rocks.

Storm edged a tight opening period 17-14, led by fine shooting from Gabriel Lorimer and then the sides shared the 2nd period 20:20 to give Ayr a 3pt lead at half time. Mathew Keegan and Paul Gibbons hit early three-point shots in the second half and Matthew Morrison drove inside for some layups - but this was a false dawn as the side unexplainably collapsed in the final minute of the period, conceding 10 points without reply, losing the period 28-18 and finding themselves trailing by seven points going into the final quarter.

In Period Four for each shot Lorimer or Gibbons made, for each layup from Keegan or Morrison, the home side made one of their own and no inroad could be made on the deficit. Ayr did take the final period 22-21, but the damage was done in that slack P3, FT: Glasgow Rocks 83 Ayr Storm 77.

The side still have an outside shout of reaching the play-offs but will need to reply o other teams causing surprises.

The U16 men, meanwhile returned to Glasgow for a SLBA fixture with Glasgow Rens - and this was another edge of the seat match for the great support that went with the team.

Storm took period one by two points (16-14) but the home side recovered in period two, taking it 17-11 to lead by four at the break.

The second half saw the sides trade baskets - literally! Rens would hit a three and it would be answered by Ayr - so this was going to go down to defence and making crucial stops.

Ayr did this and winning Period Three 21-17 tied the game at 48-48 going into the final period.

The teams were still only separated by one basket with two minutes left when coach Danny Gibbons called a time-out and advised his tea on how to close out the game. Two quick layups from Mathew Keegan and 2 shots from Gabriel Lorimer off threaded passes from captain Paul Gibbons sealed the win. FT: Glasgow Rens 62 Ayr Storm 68. This secures 2nd spot for the team in their SLBA section and into the playoff system for this league.

Elsewhere the U18 men struggled in SBC Division 2, when they visited Glasgow Rocks.

Coach Morrison had a plan to negate the big height advantage Rocks had in their 6ft 6in centre who could shoot from distance - just to find they now have a 6ft 9in player as well and for the small Storm team it was a challenge to far. FT: Glasgow Rocks 104 Ayr Storm 58.
