MOTORISTS and cyclists alike were badly affected by the weather last week throughout Ayrshire.

Icy road conditions and snow prevented all but a few hardy members of Ayr Roads/Harry Fairbairn Cycling Club from venturing out into the arctic conditions. Coast roads were the order of the day both for the mid week and Sunday group riders.

Nonetheless the midweek group ran into heavy rain and snow on the southern route and were forced to return, still having recorded a nice sixty mile run for this time of year.

Last Saturday and Sunday had another two groups out, with the Sunday group forced to return after only 30 miles, having had to change their route and then having to abandon the run for safety sake after deteriorating conditions.

This Sunday will see the first Cyclo Cross event of the 2018 season take place at Rozelle Park. Promoted by local club Ayr Burners, this popular event will attract riders from all over the country, with riders from all Ayrshire Clubs competing. The Roads club will have five members in the race.
