GLENAFTON ATHLETIC 2

GIRVAN 3

UNDERDOGS Girvan shocked their heavily-favoured Premier Division rivals by blasting into a shock 3-0 interval lead.

And despite a fightback in the second half by Glenafton, the visitors held on for a memorable victory.

It took only a minute for Girvan to take the lead when a throw-in found Michael Reilly who turned in the box and netted.

Twelve minutes later a free-kick from the visitors was diverted for a corner. Paul Cameron had a chance to increase the lead but shot wide.

Five minutes later Craig Reid had an effort from 22 yards which flew over the bar.

Girvan doubled their lead in 28 minutes when Robert Paterson broke into the penalty area and squared the ball to Craig Reid who netted. Two minutes later it was three after a Paul Cameron free-kick rebounded from the bar and Reid headed the rebound into the net from eight yards.

Just before the interval a Glenafton free kick was driven into the wall and cleared.

Michael Reilly broke into the penalty area but the Glenafton keeper saved the big striker's effort.

Glenafton pulled a goal back in 58 minutes, Ryan Borris heading home at the back post.

Seven minutes from time Glenafton added a second when a Kyle McAusland shot was deflected into the net.

Right on the final whistle Scott Johnston produced a stunning save, seeing a shot late through a ruck of players he managed to turn the ball away for a corner.
