ACE Prestwick Footgolf ace Gavin Craig is basking in European glory.

The first ever FootGolf European Team Championships were won by Team UK. The event took place at the Chateau d’Augerville just outside Paris on September 16 and 17.

Eight nations took part with Gavin flying the flag for Ayrshire.

On the Saturday, the UK cruised into the semi-final, hitting 36 shots less than any other nation. In the morning, five pairs played foursomes and then in the afternoon 10 singles went out.

Team UK faced Holland in the semi-finals. Captains of each country picked four players for singles and six players to play foursomes in a match play format.

The UK scraped through 4-3 to set up a final against hosts France.

The final came down to the last putt, with the UK sealing victory.

Scottish National Champion Gavin said: “What an incredible feeling it was to become a champion of Europe. Even just a year ago, if you told me I would be a champion of Europe at anything I would have laughed at you. I am so proud to have been a part of it and it’s been a privilege to have played in a team full of absolute ballers!

"Having already convincingly beaten the Americans in their own back yard last May, this yet again shows the strength in depth of FootGolfers in the UK. Thanks to Andy McKenzie Plumbing & Gas Services and The Sparkle Horse pub in Glasgow for sponsoring me and everyone who supported me from back home."

Gavin’s final trip abroad this season will be in December when he flies out to Marrakesh to participate in the UK Grand Final.
