Betfred Cup

AYR UNITED 5

CLYDE 1

AYR United all but qualified for the second round of the Betfred Cup in style after a convincing 5-1 over Clyde at Somerset Park.

A double from Craig Moore along with goals from Robbie Crawford, Micheal Moffat and man of the match Declan McDaid turned things round after David Goodwillie had put the Bully Wee ahead early on.

The away side took the lead after 12 minutes. A break away from Smart Osadolor on the left wing saw the striker deliver a delicious ball between the defence and keeper that was perfect for Goodwillie to knock the ball back across goal and into the net.

The Honest Men were back level just eight minutes later. David Ferguson whipped the ball in from the right for Crawford at the back post. The midfielder took a touch before knocking the ball in to the bottom corner.

The home side then took the lead on the half hour mark. A excellent ball over the top opened the Clyde defence up for McDaid to cushion the ball down to Moore who smash the ball into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

United extended their lead on 53 minutes when McDaid won a throw in on the right. He took it himself and threw it long into the box where Jamie Adams flicked the ball on for Moffat to fire home from 12 yards.

It was 4-1 after 64 minutes. The ball was played into the box from the left and it the ball fell to Moore who thumped it home from close range for his second of the match.

With 15 minutes to go McDaid finally got in on the action. Moffat chipped a cross in from the left and the midfielder stole in to get on the end and put the ball beyond Blair Currie in the Clyde goal.
