FORM team Prestwick on Saturday edged out Dumfries to stay top of the Western Premier Division, just two days after reaching a cup final.

But Ayr fell to their first defeat in six when they lost away to Ferguslie at Meikleriggs.

Visitors Prestwick won the boss and elected to bat at Dumfries. They scored 235 for nine in their 50 overs, Fasail Jawad top-scoring with 100 and Mitchell Rao contributing 30.

The hosts batted very well and fell just short, Gavin Pitt and Willie Rowan taking two wickets apiece as they were bowled all out for 230, giving the visitors a five-run win.

They took on West of Scotland away in the Rowan Cup semi-final on Thursday and the hosts finished their innings on 159 for six, Sachin Chaudhary taking two wickets.

Prestwick's reply was 160 for 4, giving them a one-run victory. Sachin Chaudhary was top bowler with two for 11.

They now face Clydesdale in the final, provisionally scheduled for Thursday at Shawholm.

Ferguslie batted first against Ayr and posted an impressive 276-5. The Ayr reply got off to a disappointing start with the early loss of Neil Smith and struggled to keep up with the required run rate early on, but lifted the tempo as the game moved on, only to fall short by 29 runs of their target, finishing on 256-8. There were useful contributions from Michael Papps (56), Michael Miller (50), Scott McElnea (40) and Shujja Khan (38).

The Cambusdoon XI had a comfortable victory at home to Meiklriggs. Bowling the visitors out for 138 they went on to reach their target for the loss of only three wickets. Robbie Henderson (37) and Callum Henderson (28 not out) did most of the damage with the bat as they won with 25 overs left.
