AN Ayrshire-based charity will be one of the beneficiaries of a special event being held to coincide with the Scottish Open golf tournament.
A cricket match fundraiser is taking place on Tuesday, July 11 at the Henry Thow Oval between a team of golf caddies and players, and Helensburgh and Prestwick Cricket Clubs. Gillian's Saltire Appeal, a charity based in Largs, with Sam Torrance as its ambassador, provides accommodation breaks in Largs for people recovering from cancer from the Maggie's Centre in Glasgow. The event is a joint fundraiser for both these charities. The action starts at Prestwick Cricket Club at 6pm.
There will be a barbecue and beers, and an auction after the event with some great signed merchandise up for grabs from the world of golf football, boxing, and Formula One.
The Scottish Open is being held from July 13 to 16 at Dundonald Links.
