UNDEFEATED Prestwick Academy made history when they lifted the Ayrshire Schools Under-13 Cup on Wednesday.

They defeated near neighbours Belmont Academy 3-2 in a thrilling final at Dam Park Stadium, allowing them to complete the first treble in their history.

Goals from Euan McIver, Euan Robertson and Joseph Banks paved the way for victory in front of a sizeable crowd.

Coach Adam Boyle was delighted with his team's display and said: "We drew two league games and won all the rest and are undefeated this season. We drew 3-3 with Belmont in after normal time in the South Ayrshire League Cup final and won it on penalties. This is the first treble Prestwick Academy have won. It's nice for the other coach Kevin Bryden as he takes all the teams and it's the first time he has won a treble."

Asked what had been the secret of their success, Boyle said: "The boys are determined, very fit, have really good football brains and we haven't had to do much coaching. They're a right tight-knit bunch, are great pals and want to fight for each other. Four of the boys who played are with Kilmarnock FC - Euan McIver, Struan Knox, Brandon Holland and Ashton Agnew and are doing really well there."

Defeated coach Asif Rafiq: "The boys worked hard but it wasn't to be. Prestwick are a good side and beat us in the League Cup final as well."
