THE £50,000 Class 1 listed contest – the Tennent’s British Stallion Studs EBF Rothesay Stakes run over one mile two furlongs takes centre stage on Tennent’s Raceday at Ayr Racecourse tomorrow (Wednesday).

Six runners go to post including Maleficent Queen, trained by Keith Dalgleish who won last year’s inaugural running of the race.

This year the five-year-old filly will be ridden by Joe Fanning. More Mischief, runner up in 2016 also runs again with Graham Lee in the saddle.

The highest rated filly in the race is Nezwaah who makes the long journey from Roger Varian’s Newmarket yard and will be Andrea Atzeni’s first ever mount at Ayr.

With entries in the Group 1 Prince of Wales’s Stakes at Royal Ascot in June and the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh in July she is obviously highly rated by connections.

Another notable runner is Pure Art, trained by Ralph Beckett and the mount of Fran Berry.

The main supporting race on the card is the Guinness Handicap over five furlongs and Jim Goldie will run Tommy G a winner at the track earlier in the month while Keith Dalgleish saddles Dark Defender.

The opening race is the EBF Stallion Appletiser Novice Stakes which has attracted a field of 11 runners including Mark Johnston’s Noble Manners, second at Beverley earlier in the month. There are eight races on the card and gates are open at 12.20pm.
