SORRY Ayr United are teetering on the brink of relegation following a 4-0 home humbling against Championship winners Hibs.

And if they do ultimately go down next week what a dreadfully disappointing way to end the home campaign.

They lacked guile, fight and cutting edge, especially in the first half and seemed to meekly accept their fate. They improved after the break but created few clear cut chances.

Yet remarkably they can still make the playoffs with a five-goal win at Raith Rovers on Saturday.

Jason Cummings and Martin Boyle netted in the first half and James Keatings and Cummings scored after the break.

Later United boss Ian McCall said: "The first half was horrible and Hibs were far better but in the second half we did ourselves justice and could have scored  one it two goals ourselves. If we beat Raith 5-0 it will go to goals scored. Miracles can happen in football."
