IT has been a busy weekend for members of the Ayr Seaforth Road Race section with several in action at various locations around Britain.

On Saturday Tim Downie completed the John Muir Way Trail Ultra Marathon which is a 50km ultra race that primarily takes place along The John Muir Way in East Lothian, navigating through places such as Gullane and North Berwick before finishing in Dunbar.

Tim was one of 165 runners who took part and he completed the 50km course in a creditable 5hrs 21mins.

Next up was Laurence Baker who also competed on Saturday but this time in a slightly longer race, namely the Glasgow to Edinburgh Ultra Marathon. This is a 55-mile race which starts in Ruchill Park, Glasgow and follows a course along both the Forth and Clyde and Union Canals before taking in the Antonine Wall and Falkirk Wheel before the finish in Edinburgh Key. A truly daunting prospect for most but Laurence completed the course in 10hrs 38mins.

On Sunday, three athletes took part in this year’s Manchester Marathon. John Ross and George Ross both completed the 26 miles in 2:58.05 followed by Stephen McDowall in 3:15.34.

Also running was Janice McKellar in the Tom Scott 10 mile race. This race takes place on paths around Strathclyde Loch and Janice completed the 10 miles in 1:29.28.
