SOUTH Ayrshire rugby is on the crest of a wave after a glorious weekend.

Ayr Rugby Club soared into the final of the BT Cup by hammering Glasgow Hawks 28-10, while mighty Marr demolished Musselburgh 76-0 take them a point from a coveted BT Premiership place.

Carrick defeated Hawick Harlequins 43-20 in the BT Shield semi-final and will join Ayr at Murrayfield on April 22. Ayr face fierce foes Melrose and Carrick take on Murrayfield Wanderers.

Ayr on Saturday face Hawks again in the League Playoff semi-final, while Marr are at GHA for their final BT National League One game.

Marr head coach Craig Redpath said: "We are looking for one final push and it would be a dream if we get into the Premiership and have trips to Ayr and Melrose. It's why you get into sport to have the chance to win titles. I know we need a point but we are going out to win the match although it will be tough as GHA want a victory for fourth place."

Ayr counterpart Calum Forrester said: "We dominated the match and had it wrapped up by half-time. It's great to be back at Murrayfield for the first time since 2013 but that's on the back burner and we must focus on Saturday."

Carrick head coach Gordon Brown added: "It's a great achievement to be back in the final and hopefully we can win again. I have connections at Gordonians who played Murrayfield Wanderers in the semi-final so I should get plenty of information on them."
