BRAEHEAD CLAN 4

DUNDEE STARS 1

CLINICAL Clan were celebrating their third straight Gardiner Conference title after an easy win against the Taysiders on home ice on Saturday night.

Their fourth conference success in five years sparked major celebrations among the players and fans.

Going into the game, Marc LeFebvre’s visitors were the only other team who could mathematically win the silverware, but their hopes quickly evaporated in the first period.

Clan were ahead after eight minutes when Stefan Della Rovere teed up Cody Carlson on the blue line, who sent it flying past Dundee goalie Joe Fallon.

A fight broke out between the Stars’ Justin Faryna and Corey Cowick that got the fans on their feet as the noise level cranked up.

It was the home side that took advantage as Matt Beca glided down the inside right and his attempt to play it into the danger zone saw it deflected past Fallon.

Then a breakaway saw Beca turn provider as he set up Mike Hammond, who finished with aplomb and the home side were three up.

Dundee pulled one back early on in the middle period when a scramble in front of Michal Zajkowski’s goal allowed Cale Tanaka to finish it off.

But the home side re-opened the three-goal lead as Alex Leavitt converted an excellent solo effort, coming in from the outside to round Fallon and complete a wonderful move.

The buzzer went at the end to confirm Clan’s success in the Conference once again as well as a place in the play-offs at the end of next month.
