BACK-to-back wins have helped Ayr Storm Men's first team move up to second place in SLBA SM Division Two.

First up the team faced Paisley away, a game they knew would be a tough fixture.

Despite a physical game, there were few fouls early on, and as Ayr started big and with playing a zone defence, they helped to keep Paisley’s key players out from the key area. Dan Bajwoluk worked hard on the outside shots, hitting two 3-pointers and also converted from the free throw line, Sam Wallace running the court, and Alan Deans scoring from under the basket, giving Ayr and early 15-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Deans, Wallace and Bajwoluk continued their scoring into the second quarter, which was a close affair, bringing the score to 30-23 in favour of Ayr at the half.

As the game resumed, Ayr continued to work hard on the defensive end, but Paisley began to hit some outside shots, allowing them back into the game slightly closing the third quarter at a score of 48-44 to Ayr, despite Chris Morrison hitting a couple of baskets and Callum Bain scoring from the outside but Ayr managed to keep it together, playing as a team and kept Paisley at bay and went onto close the game out for a much deserved win, finishing Paisley 66 Ayr Storm 73.

Bajwoluk scored a season high of 30 points, Wallace (18), Deans (12), Morrison (6), Reid (4), Bain (2) and McBeth (1).

Coach Stevie Moug was looking for the same team work in the home game against Renfrew Rocks and was not disappointed.

The game began with Ayr getting the ball inside to Alan Deans while Sam Wallace was also driving hard to the basket to score, giving Ayr a small lead of 17-15 at the end of the first quarter. Substitutions were made by Ayr in the second with Djordevic scoring, Morrison adding some mid-range shots and Bain scoring from the outside. The game continued to be a physical but fairly played battle, finishing the first half at 35-27 in favour of Ayr.

Into the third, Renfrew hit two three-point shots and some free throws as the fouls mounted up for Ayr, along with a scoring drought as Renfrew clawed back into the game slightly outscoring Ayr 14-11, leaving Ayr with a small lead of five points going into the final quarter.

In the last 10 minutes Ayr, worked hard on both ends of the court, Wallace struggled with his usually reliable three-point shot so Coach Stevie Moug substituted McBeth and McQuade into the game.

Renfrew went to a half court press in order to force Ayr to make errors, but with the spaces being found in the court, Ayr managed to overcome this and held on to for the essential win even as Renfrew knocked down a couple of three-pointers at the end. Final score: Ayr Storm 57 Renfrew Rocks 53.

Ayr remain second in Division Two with a record of 4 wins and 1 loss. Dan Bajwoluk (23 points), Wallace (10), Deans (8), Morrison (6), Reid (2), Bain (2), Djordevic (2), McQuade (2) and McBeth (2).
