ETHX Energy Scottish Junior Cup Fourth Round
DARVEL 2
TROON 1
DARVEL produced the shock of the round in the national competition by dumping out Premier Division side Troon at Recreation Park
It was a real bad day at the office for the Ardagh Glass League cup finalists, who despite dominating the game were shot shy in front of goal - their first real effort coming in injury-time.
Troon were without injured skipper Dean Keenan and his drive was badly missed.
Darvel were up for the match from the start, hounding Gordon Burns' side all over the field and deserved to go ahead with an effort from
Vernon..
Troon had a strong appeal for a penalty shortly after this goal. Craig Harvey found Dale Moore who was bundled over in the box, but the referee waved away their claims
Although Troon had the bulk of the pressure in the second half they never troubled the Darvel keeper.
Darvel added a second goal when a poor header back by Chris McKnight was pounced on by Vernon who netted his second goal.
Troon did find the net in injury-time, Adam Forsyth shooting home, but it was too little too late and it was Darvel who go into the hat for the fifth round.
TROON: .Semple; Armstrong. Brown, McKnight, Collins, Chatham, Harvey, Spence. Forsyth, McKenna, Moore. Subs: McCrae, Muir, Curragh, McGowan.
