ON-form Ayr United midfielders Alan Trouten and Ross Docherty hope to put former club Airdrieonians to the sword on Saturday after the Honest Men extended their unbeaten run to 13 games.

Trouten was on target in the 1-0 win at home to Albion Rovers which kept them top of Ladbrokes league One.

While admitting his side were not at their best, the midfielder is still delighted with their progress and said: "It was my first goal in a while and it's good to get on the scoresheet. It was a good pass from Nicky Devlin, a good move and a good bit of football. We never played well as a team but it's another win which keeps us top of the league and that's where we want to be. It was nice to win against the only side who had beaten us in the league and it was a poor performance that day. That's one of the best runs i have been involved in. We were 16 games unbeaten at Brechin but were not top of the league. We want to go up but the pressure is still on Dunfermline, who have a very strong squad."

He quipped: " I look forward to the Airdrie game and might get a better reception than when I was there! We hope to take three ponts to keep the run going."

Docherty was happy with his side's battling qualities and said: "The boys dug in and got a good result. We sat in a bit which we have been doing too much recently. Once we get the goal we should keep pressing to get more. The aim is to make the playoffs. I look forward to the Airdrie game and got a bit of stick when I played there earlier in the season and will again. They will be hard to play against but we are aiming for three points."

Manager Ian McCall took positives from the game but still feels his side can do better and said: "We we poor and can play better but deserved the win as our goalie didn't have a save to make. We won the game because of our two midfielders Jamie Adams and Ross Docherty who were absolutely immense. The last five to 10 minutes were tricky as they put a lot of balls info the box. We had a great result at Airdrie earlier in the season and are at home and looking to win. There's belief in the dressing room and we are looking to keep our run going as long as possible."

Brian Gilmour, who is recovering from a hamstring injury has an outside chance of returning to the squad, but Craig Moore (hamstring) is still out.
