DEMANDING Ayr United boss Ian McCall admitted he was "disappointed" not to leave Glebe Park with all three points as Ayr were held by basement team Brechin City.

But the manager is impressed with his side's progress as they remain a point clear of Dunfermline Athletic at the top of Ladbrokes League One following the 1-1 draw.

The result extended their unbeaten record to 12 games.

McCall was encouraged with his team's overall play but still feels they are capable of better and said: "Of course it's good to keep the run going. But I was disappointed we didn't win the match as we had chances to kill the game off. They should definitely not have had a corner in the run-up to their goal but there's nothing we can do about that now. We are in a great position and I would have taken that at the start of the season. But there is no way the players are resting on their laurels."

The boss is delighted with his team's form and said: "We are in great form and the good thing is that we haven't won six and drawn six but won eight and drawn four. and I would have taken that at the start of the season. I know it will come to an end sometime but we want to keep it going as long a we can."

United on Saturday host an Albion Rovers side who are the only team to beat them in the league so far and revenge will be on their minds. That is the first of three crucial home games in succession, with Airdrieonians at Somerset Park on November 14 and Dunfermline heading there in the Wiliam Hill Scottish Cup seven days later.

McCall said: "We really must make the most of home advantage in all three games. It's an important period coming up. But we can only take them a game at a time.. Albion Rovers thoroughly deserved to beat us in the league game although we beat them at home in the cup. They have kicked on and are doing well in fourth position but we must look to win the game and hopefully the fans will turn out in good number numbers and get behind us. They have given us great backing all season."

Craig Moore and Brian Gilmour are both still out injured. But it is hoped the could be back in action for the Dunfermline Athletic cup tie.
