ELATED Troon FC boss Gordon Burns saluted star midfielder Scott Chatham as the Seasiders chalked up their fourth win out of five on Saturday.

They defeated Shettleston 1-0 to leave them well placed in third spot in the Super Premier Division.

A goal from on-form striker Adam Forsyth sealed victory for the Portland Park side.

It was their fourth win in five games.

Burns was impressed with his team's display and said: "The first half was a non-event but we more like ourselves after the break and it was a good goal from Adam. It was a blow to lose Neil McGowan with a thigh injury but our two substitutes Jordan Muir and Dale Shirkie did really well and set up the goal. Scott Chatham had another excellent game. He has real drive and determination and is our longest serving player by far. This is his eighth season and it shows how well he is progressing since he started out with us in the District League. But it was a good team performance and evreryone contributed. It was great to keep a clean sheet."

Troon on Saturday will aim for revenge when they host a Kirkintilloch Rob Roy side, who defeated them in the league a week past on Saturday, in the New Coin Holdings West of Scotland Cup. That is followed seven days later by a Scottish Junior Cup third round tie against East Coasst giants Bo'ness United.

Burns added: "The manner in which we lost at Rob Roy was disappointing as they won it with a freak goal. But we want to make amends and will hopefully go through. The Scottish Cup tie will be tough but hopefully we can progress."
