COMMUTERS will no longer be able to leave their car at Hillhouse Gardens, Barassie so they can catch the train.

Concerns and complaints regarding a high level of daily on-street parking by commuters accessing the nearby Barassie Railway Station were received by South Ayrshire Council.

This lead to congestion and access difficulties for larger vehicles making deliveries and at times of bin collections.

A one hour parking restriction will be in place from 10am until 11am Monday to Friday to clamp down on all day parking.

This means that if commuters park at 7am and don’t return until 6pm they will be fined as they have exceeded the one hour limit.

Residents were asked by the Ayrshire Roads Alliance what measures they would like to see in place to tackle the problem. Out of 39 homes, there were 27 replies.

This was agreed at a planning at South Ayrshire Council last Wednesday, May 9.

They were asked if they would favour a one hour restriction or a residents parking scheme. Of the 27 residents, 19 favoured the one hour parking scheme.

Cllr Peter Convery said: “I think this is a welcome step. It has been very difficult for the residents and is a growing problem.

“From that point of view I think it will be beneficial.”

Cllr Ian Cavana said: “We have been here before. I am sure we will be back here in six months [as other streets have the same problems].

“But I am 100 per cent behind this initiative.”
